Re: Why REXX does not need to be compiled?
Actually bytecode (or p-code) is much more recent than mainframes (I think it dates to the late 1970's but I don't have any specific references to its age) whereas the IBM S/360 and its COBOL compiler dates back to 1964. COBOL and FORTRAN, both extensively used in the 1960's and early to mid 1970's...

Re: delete a member from pds based on creation date.
Hi Robert,
Thanks. Yes it is PDS only. I looked at the PDS reading program here https://www.zmainframes.com/downloadsystemcat?id=1
I will be working with it but it sounds too complicated to start with. I was trying to accomplish something on the fly and didn't think that it can get this complex.

I think you can only search the TDQ name using ISPF search in your programs. I think there is no other way.

You are correct but then if we want to stay in mainframes, what can keep us motivated?

delete a member from pds based on creation date.
Hi, Is there a way to read the creation date of a member in PDS? We have an 'override' library. This library is used only at specific times when we want to override some of the production execution. After the execution it is required to remove the overridden member. But usually people don't remove t...

Re: Why REXX does not need to be compiled?
Thanks Robert. That's a great a explanation. I read it 3 times.
I have another question, does that mean all the languages which are called compiled languages are actually generating p-code, to make them platform independent?

Re: Remote Jobs for mainframe programmer from across the world
I think there are some jobs of this nature. Though I have found only 'training' jobs online when I looked in google. Most of the such Jobs are available in U.S. or other Westerns countries. Not sure if we can join them from India.

Thanks Robert. I read the article on p-code machines at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P-code_machine though I am still trying to understand it.

Different version of same MAP in CICS
Hi, I am working on COBOL CICS program and it has the following message: MAPS: PGM123J - 80 BYTE VERSION. PGM123 - 132 BYTE VERSION. I tried to find some combination of it in https://www.google.com/search?q=80+byte+map+and+132+byte+map+in+cics&source=hp&ei=DVIeYfKGC5DX1sQP2tSIuA8&iflsig=...

There had been mix feelings. I have seen deaths of some known so it's upsetting. Workwise, working from home is much better.

I think scheduling software can work BUT if the two jobs are not dependent on each other, apart from using the same file then is it good to DISP=OLD or scheduling software? Will it not confuse in future impact analysis that why these two jobs are dependent of each other?
