Hi,
I have a many many sequential files which follow the naming convention like ABC.DEF.* but now all the files starting with ABC.* will be deleted for some storage initiative. Now we have to rename all these datasets to another naming convention like XYZ.*. Please help if there is a way for doing this in batch with smallest possible effort rather than copying them one by one?
Any guidance in this regard will be great.
Change first qualifier of the datasets together.
Re: Change first qualifier of the datasets together.
Use your backup software to back up the data sets and then restore with the new name.

Have you talked to your site support group? They could use ISMF to rename the data sets fairly easily; most sites do not allow application programmers to use ISMF.

As this was an initiative from the application team, site support group left it on us. We did it manually using sort copy.

As long as the number of qualifiers remains the same, ADRDSSU is a fast, easy way to change data set high level qualifiers. It will not convert A.B.C.? to Z.Y.?, though. Back up and then restore with RENAMEUNCONDITIONAL.
