Hi,
I was thinking not to ask this question but now when I see a number of collogues getting much better package in other technologies I could not stop myself to ask, are the mainframes outdated?
Do you get paid well compared to other technologies?

Re: Are the mainframes outdated?
Asking if mainframes are outdated based on the pay packages people are getting is pretty much like rating cars based on the size of the glove box. Surveys are consistently saying that the companies that use mainframes expect to continue using them well into the 2030's and later. So you cannot say mainframes are outdated at this point. Pay packages are a function of the actual demand for the positions, the perceived demand for the positions, the location (different countries have different pay scales), local differences, and many other factors.

Mainframes can never be outdated. But In India the payment in this technology is very less. They think new technologies makes more business. I am not sure what skill set can we learn for better salaries while working on mainframes.
