Use of Icetool is not allowed in mainframe programming?

Post by Piggy Chop »

Hi,

In my company Use of Icetool is not allowed in mainframe programming? I mean it's not like everyone is denying it though it's kind of discouraged. Could anyone please tell me why is the use of Icetool discouraged in mainframe programming?

I am not sure why do you ask that question - could you please add some more details to help you?
Thanks,

I've worked for 10 or more companies in the last 45+ years. Not a single one of them restricted, in any way, access to ICETOOL. Some of the sites did restrict certain vendor products, generally because the license was usage-based and the company wanted to limit their cost exposure. ICETOOL is not, as far as I know, one of those products. Several of the companies encouraged the use of SORT-based solutions (such as ICETOOL programs) to reduce the reliance on compiled languages (COBOL, PL/I, HLASM, etc).

You would have to ask in your company about why they discourage the use of ICETOOL as that certainly is not a common occurrence.
