Hi,

What tools I should be equipped with to get a working "mainframe simulator" at my personal computer wile I'm not working for any company?

Are there any limitations on that or I can get working virtually everything on a home grown mainframe connection?

Hercules-390 is the most common mainframe emulator (http://www.hercules-390.org) but z390 can also be used (http://www.z390.org). Note that unless you work for an IBM development partner company, it is not legal for you to run z/OS or any other recent IBM operating system on such emulators. MVS 3.8 can legally be run, but it dates back more than 20 years ago. Some packages such as ISPF also cannot be run on the emulator.
