Working with VSAM dataset.

Post by bscott »

Let me ask one questions about VSAM in this forum. What is the specialty of first record in a VSAM file? It is called the Control record.

I've seen, if I delete this control record, we can do nothing with this VSAM file (Like reload it online from another VSAM file like this). So, if anyone can give some details on this control record please, that would be great.

Your question makes no sense to me. VSAM data sets can be sequential (ESDS), keyed (KSDS), relative (RRDS) or linear (LDS). You did not specify which type of VSAM you're talking about. And NONE of these types have anything like a "control record" involved so it is not at all clear what you are referring to.

Sorry, I should have said it is for KSDS.
