That was a great, actually chip looked so compact for that time. I heard that mainframes were bigger than rooms so size mattered based on this reading I read somewhere.

How system decide which unit to be used for different qualifier of a dataset?

Hi, In our system we have many type of datasets. Datasets starts with different names, like some datasets start with 'T', others with 'P' or 'W'. Now how does system decides which unit parameter should be used for which qualifier? I thought it should be done by CLASS but the links I read through did...

Hi, Recently in our company they have started rejecting the JCL or PROCs which have UNIT parameter coded. The argument is that per the new 'mainframe standards' UNIT parameter is no longer required.
