For an exercise, we need to get a list of all the datsets, with a high level qualifier ABCDE.*, and the amount of space it is using. For example, the final output can be like:

ABCDE.dataset1 113 tracks 
ABCDE.dataset2 134 tracks

.

Any help or pointers in this regard is appreciated.

for case (2) the trainer should have given some hints on how to proceed

Using a utility? Writing a program? Using simple ISPF (option 3.4 with inital view set to SPACE would do this and if you need to a dataset then saving the list or cut'n'paste to a file on the PC)?
