Hi,
The meaning of V in GDG, G00001V00, is version; I understand but I've not seen any use of it then why do they have it?
It might sound bizzare but it confuses a lot, at times.

Vnn - is version number
Suppos i have a daily job runs and has created GDG like
PANDORA.TEST.G0023V00
PANDORA.TEST.G0024V00
PANDORA.TEST.G0025V00
Now suppose there is an incident occured and was found that some one manually override a data in parm/table and due to which a bad file was created as
PANDORA.TEST.G0024V00
So to fix it the parms are corrected and a new version of file is created as
PANDORA.TEST.G0024V01
Hope this answers your question

As an application developer, you will probably Never use a Version in one of your datasets.
I would not let this cause confusion as it is not something you should be responsible for.

Thanks Pandora and Dick.
Does someone have any historical data about it that what made the "version" to appear in GDG defintion? Just curious.

it will be hard to pinpoint the reason, unless You can find the design documents
