Hi,

For a testing I needed some data in the file, which I have edited manually but I needed it's original version too which I don't have now. Does mainframe provide any way, like a command, may a be a TSO command retrieve the older version of dataset.

Please let me know if you need any more informaiton.

In general, the answer to your question is no. z/OS does not provide any versioning control for a data set. The only exceptions are for generation data groups (where previous versions can be accessed by using the correct relative generation number) and for version 2 PDSE data sets (where members have generations as well).

It would be worth discussing this with your site support group. Many sites use HSM or similar products which may allow you to create a backup copy that you can then restore when needed. This would be a manual process, though, as there is no automated versioning provided in z/OS.
