I'm from Europe, countries don't mean much to me any more, I'm Dutch, lived and worked in the UK, Ireland and now in Belgium.

And yes, rightly said - for a hitchhiker what a country boundary would actually mean?!

I'm fluent in Dutch and English, reading and speaking German is not a problem (as long as you're willing to ignore the der/den/dem/die articles), for writing I would need a good spelling and grammar checker, I speak some French, and can read it a little, I was able to read Swedish and Danish pretty easily in the 1980'ies (Calculator Newsletters), and sad as it may be, given that my wife of nearly 13 years is Lithuanian, I have little comprehension of that language.

You said, it's sad though wish I had that "ability" then I'd have a ready excuse to hear only what I wanted to hear and...!
