zIIP and zAAP - how to identify?
Hi,
If a shop is zIIP and zAAP enabled, how can we identify this unless someone tells us this? Is there a way to see such a configuration?
And in general is there a way to see the configuration of the mainframes/LPAR in general?

As much I search for this I could only find some references like in DB2 10 - 'this' will be offladed to zIIP/zAAP etc. but I don't get a reference for the original questions, can someome please help.

If you have the ability to issue console commands, D M=CPU will display the configuration including specialty engines. If you do not have the ability to issue console commands, your best bet to answer the question is to get friendly with the site support group and have them tell you.

Thanks Robert.
I was expecting TSO ISPVCALL to help a bit. You think this can not be used for this purpose?
I don't have access to issue console commands. But if I had, where do I issue them as am an application developer I'm just not sure.

I don't have access to ISPVCALL at this point, so I don't know what it does -- or does not -- contain. You might check the documentation, if you have access to it, to see if specialty engines are included.
Console commands are issued via the console. This can be done at a console, or via SDSF and similar tools such as (E)JES. Depending upon the site, however, application programmers don't typically have the authority to issue console commands (since they can severely impact the system).

pretty useless question I dare to say :geek:I was expecting TSO ISPVCALL to help a bit. You think this can not be used for this purpose?
if You had issued the TSO ISPVCACLL twice as suggested
You would have found Yourself that it return pretty nothing about the hardware configuration
cheers

As far as I recall the trace had not had details about zIIP but I was told (later) that shop is zIIP enabled though it had details about the CPU number...that's why I ask here.

Re: zIIP and zAAP - how to identify?
I was doing some reading, a tough thing to do these days -- however, I think I got some answer for your question Rahmat. With RMF TYPE70 we can get the processor type and model we run on, as well as the number of engines it has. Now, with the introduction of specialty engines such as zAAPs and zIIPs, we can also determine how many of each of them we have. Additionally, we can see the amount of CPU being consumed, both on the general purpose engines and on the specialty engines.
Hope this helps.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
