What is the scope for Mainframe Architect nowadays ?

Post by Abhishek Gupta »

Hello,

Since there are less number of mainframe developments going on nowadays (at least that is what I think) What is the current need of Mainframe Architects?

According to me,they will be needed
  • When we get a new mainframe client who was served by our competitors before.
  • When a high-level change is proposed in existing system which I believe very rare.
Apart from that what are the scenarios they will come into picture. What are their responsibilities in this Organization? Is there any role they are playing in Maintenance and support activities? And finally how to become a mainframe Architect - do you really need to know every bit of it?

You would have to define the maening of architect. Do you mean an application architect, a system architect a hardware architect....?

Mainframe Architect is not a commonly used job title, which is one reason (I suspect) that you're not getting responses. Lately there seems to be more system architects, who are integrating mainframes and distributed systems into applications where some of the code runs on one platform, data gets transferred, and then more code runs on another platform. I don't typically see many mainframe-specific architects, at least not in the US.
